Net metering (salderen) stops on 1 January 2027; the law is final. In September 2026 Minister Van Veldhoven (Klimaat en Groene Groei) definitively set the accompanying rules: suppliers may still charge terugleverkosten and may choose their own method (fixed amounts, tiers or per kWh), but from 2027 both the feed-in compensation and the feed-in costs must be stated per kWh on the invoice and explained at contract signing. The regulator ACM had asked for a mandatory per-kWh charge; the minister declined, although in practice nearly all suppliers are moving to per-kWh feed-in costs with their 1 January 2027 tariffs. Until 2030 the compensation must be at least 50% of the bare electricity price.
With most suppliers at the legal minimum, comparison sites calculate an average net revenue of roughly 0.4 cent per kWh fed in, in a few contracts even negative. Separately, the cabinet reported on 5 November 2026 a promising method to end the double energy tax on home batteries from 2027 (see the dedicated item).
For installers: Size new systems for self-consumption rather than export, and offer batteries, smart EV charging and heat-pump control as the way to keep PV payback attractive after 2026.
